Project Overview
Construction Timeframe: Summer 2025 - Summer 2026
Seismic Improvements: Seismic strengthening with objective of meeting Seismic Performance Level IV
Code Compliance: Updated sprinkler, fire alarm systems and HVAC in 1960's portion; improved parking, lighting and entrances, remodeled restrooms
Electrical Panel Improvements: Replacement of select electrical panels
Young Hall has been identified as a high priority, level VI rated, building for seismic renovations.
Seismic Renovation
The following scope will improve seismic safety while minimizing the impact to the interior of the building.
- Improve building strength in north-south direction with Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) strips
- Improved building strength in west direction with west side stairwell shear wall
- Strengthening of south side ground level exterior columns
Fire, Accessibility & Other Code Improvements
The following scope will be executed in compliance with the National Fire Protection Association standards (NFPA), the California Building Code (CBC) and Americans with Disabilities Act Standards (ADA).
- Provide new automatic fire sprinkler system in 1960's portion of the building
- Provide fire alarm system in 1960's portion of the building
- Upgrade accessible parking stall
- Update various entry doors
- Update interior illuminated exit signage and room signage
- Remodel existing restrooms (men’s and women’s)
- Remove and replace interior stair guardrail and handrail
- Remove and replace exterior stairs and ramps
- Install exterior lighting
- Update HVAC in 1960's portion of the building
Electrical Panel Replacements
Electrical panels that have reached end of life will be replaced to help support electrical needs throughout the building. When possible, this work may be completed on a separate timeline from the other project work to help alleviate outages during business hours.
